Director of Behavioral Health

Duffy Health Center, Hyannis, MA                   August 2004- December 2007

Provide program planning, oversight, and supervision of mental health and substance abuse program at an independent, non-profit, federally-funded community health center for homeless adults. Responsible for oversight of all aspects of behavioral health department: staff of four, department budget, regulations, utilization review, program management, protocols and procedures, and outcomes measures. Work closely with the Medical and Case Management Departments to include wrap-around services for homeless individuals with complex medical conditions. Provide direct clinical services to dually-diagnosed and other homeless or at-risk clients.

  • Developed comprehensive outpatient behavioral health program for agency

  • Initiated behavioral health outreach  as part of interdisciplinary team approach

Provided program oversight of all aspects of social work care at Department of Mental  Health inpatient acute care setting serving the chronically mentally ill and dually diagnosed with substance abuse issues.  Team Leader of multidisciplinary treatment plan meetings. Worked closely with psychiatry, inpatient medical director, nursing, mental health counselors, addiction specialists to ensure quality care and multidisciplinary treatment.   Supervised three staff for overall clinical decisions, treatment and aftercare planning, and biopsychosocial assessments and diagnosis.

  • Helped to organize social work templates and implement MHIS system for electronic record keeping  which went live across the state

  • Ensured quality paperwork standards to meet JCAHO guidelines and reviews.

The program focus is on building collaborative leadership skills, enhancing participants’ awareness of themselves as leaders, and leveraging their commitment to community-based health care to promote organizational and systemic change.
